Continuing Professional Development Programme

Professional Development ProgrammeThis Continuing Professional Development programme is for practitioners delivering or intending to deliver early childhood and childcare services in Sunderland within settings included on the Ofsted Early Years and/or Childcare Registers (including Voluntary), schools delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage and / or Extended Services and Children’s Centres.

The programme is produced by the Extended Services Group on behalf of Children’s Services who are committed to providing a wide range of training and development opportunities to assist early childhood and childcare providers improve outcomes for children, meet statutory duties, enhance practice and improve quality of provision.

During the summer term citywide and cluster training will be available. These courses will be promoted by individual flyers which will be emailed directly to your setting via the email address you last provided. Full details about the booking procedure and how to access editable booking forms will be provided in the email.

Becoming a childminder

Childminding can be a rewarding and fulfilling career. There are a number of steps you will need to complete in order to become a childminder.

Step One
Download the ‘Childminding is it for you?’ booklet which provides further information.


Step Two
Book onto and attend a childminder briefing session. Click here to download the upcoming childminder briefing session dates.

Step Three
Attend and complete the require training

Step Four
Register with Ofsted

Step Five
Advertise your childminding service with the Families Information Service.
